Creativity: The Hope for Our Future

At The Living Centre, we believe that our hope for the future is to adopt a new concept of human ecology; one in which we celebrate the gift of imagination and creativity.  To cultivate educational models that see our creative capacity for the richness it is, and allow creativity to imbue all subject matter.  We believe that it is our creativity that will guide us to the answers that change and empower our lives, our health and our world.

A beautiful man we met recently agreed that he too felt that creativity was the most important quality to cultivate at this time in history for us to move through these transforming times and into the next level of consciousness on the planet. He then said something which really struck me. He said that while we are all born creative, the art is to use our creativity in good ways – ways that will enhance life, not destroy it.  We have been like children playing with fire – enamoured by the possibilities and therefore reckless with our creations. The atomic bomb is a perfect example of brilliant creativity without vision.

We turn to Nature – the master of creativity for much of our inspiration at The Living Centre. Each element has so much to teach us about who we are and our part in the creative whole. The ancient teachings of Ayurveda can help us to discern and understand the art of creation and how each element expresses its creative forces through us in unique and wonderful ways. Dance, movement, sound, ritual and meditation open us to the artistry that lives within us and sparks those creative juices. For when is someone the happiest? It is when they are creating. It is the spirit of creativity that moves us forward, that drives our passion and helps us to discover the ways to transform and transcend challenges and obstacles.

All of our programs at The Living Centre celebrate the gift of human imagination and support individuals in uncovering their creative capacity – their genius and uniqueness.

Finding What Turns You ON exercise:

  • Take a moment to sit quietly. Light a candle and/or incense and have your journal or piece of paper handy.
  • Close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath. Breathing deeply, consciously relax your body.
  • Bring your attention into your heart centre and visualize each inhalation carrying streams of radiant light to fill your heart, and each exhalation carrying away all tension.
  • Now, ask yourself the question: What do I love doing? What activities really turn me on?
  • Write down whatever comes to your mind in your journal. Do not censor anything. It may be things that you already are doing, but would like to do more of or something that you would like to do but have never gotten around to it.
  • When you are done writing, look at the list you’ve created and choose one thing from your list that if you had to number them 1 – 10 would be 10.
  • Now, close your eyes again and imagine yourself doing this, letting yourself really feel the sensations that you feel when you do this. If thoughts like, “Oh, I would never have time, or, How could this happen?” come to mind, let them go.
  • Next, imagine what you will feel like at the ‘end of your days’ if you don’t fulfill this creative expression that’s just waiting to happen.
  • Now ask yourself, “How can I bring this into my life” – GET CREATIVE! There is always a way when you know what you want and you don’t block your desire with self-defeating thoughts.
  • If the answer doesn’t come right away let the Universe know that this is a part of your creativity that is very important for you to experience. Ask for the exact people, circumstances etc., that you will need to fulfill this part of your creativity.

Have a great and creative day!!
