Earth Wisdom Teachings

A genuine relationship with our Earth Mother is the cornerstone for enduring health and happiness. We discover our true nature is far more ancient and encompassing than the separate self defined by habit and society. The Earth Wisdom Teachings open us to the extraordinary ingenuity and creativity of our nature-self, rousing our love for life and the power to protect it.
Through an integrative system of philosophies and practices we open to our place as ecological beings interconnectedness in all ways to the web of life. Reclaiming our roots as an integral part of a larger living system, as essential to the planet as the forests and oceans, awakens the self-healing power that lives within this interconnectedness.
The workshop blends the Earth Wisdom teachings of indigenous cultures, with Deep Ecology, Eco-philosophy, the Work that Reconnects of Joanna Macy and body-centered practices that emulate the expressions of Nature.
The interactive exercises ignite the vitality and determination we each possess to work with others in creating a sustainable future that cherishes and supports all beings. The methods make the concepts experiential and practical.
Join in a soulful journey that re-awakens the unshakable power and joy that comes when we reclaim our birthright as Ecological Beings and with it, the Future.
The Earth Wisdom Teachings is the cornerstone of the Living Arts Institute programs.
To break the spell of separation; to rediscover the creative heart of nature; to feel the Earth's power in your bones and use it for the greater good, is to know the Earth's ecstasy as yours.
Practices that Connect

The workshop is held outdoors in nature (weather permitting) where we can connect with the more-than-human world. Intellectual knowledge and philosophies coupled with a felt experience of our ecological self, through movement, sound and rituals, awakens bio-intelligence and the capacity to live and think like an eco-system.
"We do not bring nature to life, nature brings us to life."
The workshop offers a safe environment to explore deep responses to the state of the world. The intuitively centered processes encourage each person to engage at their own pace.
The process generally unfolds in four successive movements.
1. Affirmation: Coming from Gratitude

To begin with simple, ordinary thankfulness for our existence grounds all the work that will follow. Through stories and exercises we take time to feel and express our love for life on Earth, the Elements and the magic of creation. This opens our hearts and minds and prepares the context for the pain we will also acknowledge and share.
2. Despair Work: Owning and Honoring our Pain for the World
Here we confront the realities of our planet-time, including the degradation and suffering of Earth and her beings, and let ourselves experience our responses to these realities. At our own pace we learn to embrace our pain. A profound sense of freedom and joy comes when we own and use, rather than repress our pain for the world.

3. The Shift: Seeing with New Eyes
At this point we see our pain and our power as rooted in our interconnectedness with Life. We explore our origins through our human and non-human ancestry, and draw on the strength and guidance this gives us.
4. Going Forth
In this last stage, we explore the synergistic power available to us as open systems and apply these understandings to our work for social change.
The process are fluid and dynamic, overlap and continue to spiral back onto themselves.
